Wallingford Lawmaker Honored By Water Utilities Group

The group representing Connecticut's municipal, private and regional water utilities has named State Rep. Mary Mushinsky, D-Wallingford, its Legislator of the Year

Connecticut Water Works Association Legislative Tri-Chair Maureen Westbrook (shown with Mushinsky in the photo at left following the award ceremony) called Mushinsky "a tireless advocate on issues affecting the state’s water resources."

" Last session, she worked with the water industry and environmental groups to craft legislation to encourage water companies and customer to conserve water," Westbrook said in prepared remarks when she presented the award to Mushinsky. "Her efforts recognize the importance of public water supply issues to meeting the state’s environmental, public health and safety goals.”

Mushinsky said she supports measures that involve protecting public water resources because it "is the most essential element for life."

“I am honored to have been recognized by this organization as we all commit to finding ways to safeguard this vital resource," Mushinksy said in a statement.

Mushinsky has pushed for for legislation to develop a statewide water use plan to guide decisions regarding water allocation and management.

Mushinky represents the 85th Assembly District, which covers Wallingford.
