Will Wallingford Schools Start Classes Tomorrow? Stay Tuned.

Wallingford Superintendent of Schools Salvatore Menzo and town officials were assessing the condition of roads Monday and plan to decide later this afternoon whether to go ahead with Tuesday's first day of classes as planned.

"We have all our bus drivers doing test runs to see what their routes are like," Menzo said. "They'll report back to us and we're going to meet with the mayor, police and public works to determine what to do."

Menzo said if the decision is to postpone the start of classes for another day, the district will send out emergency phone calls to parents starting Monday at 5 p.m. The district's schools and other buildings were not damage during the storm, he said.

"Our people are mostly working on clean up of fallen trees limbs," Menzo said.

The neighboring Cheshire school district, which was supposed to start classes on Monday, has already lost a day of classes to Hurricane Irene. The 2011-2012 school year is expected to start tomorrow, but parents should call the district's hot line at 203-250-2410 just to make sure there haven't been any last minute changes.
